This is the final reflective assignment for the writing class. In this class, we mainly studied three female poets, Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Bishop, and Sylvia Plath. By reading their poetry and related films, we explored the charm of poetry. We also wrote several of our own poems imitating their writing styles.
Please answer the following questions (writing
in formal, academic essays). Please feel free to use “I” (where needed), as
scholars often do. Each answer should take about 5-10 minutes. Your writing should be detailed and specific.
1. After reading Dickinson, Bishop, and Plath, what are some of the interesting conclusions you have come to on your own through research and writing?
Answer by something like  “As an international student, I had no prior knowledge of these three poets before taking this class. I am amazed that even though their eras are very distant from ours, their poetry and the emotions in their poems can still touch our hearts.”
2. Which poet/poetry do you come away from the course loving the most? Why? Which poet/poetry is the least interesting to you and why?
Answer by “I love ‘The Shampoo’, written by Elizabeth Bishop, the most, and am not very interested in “Blackberring”, written by Sylvia Plath.”
3. Do you feel that you improved over the course of the semester in any particular way? Are there parts of the research/writing process that you still feel you’d like to work on?
Answer by “I learned about three outstanding female poets, learned to appreciate poetry, wrote a few poems myself, and would like to continue studying different aspects of poetry writing.”
