Semester Paper Instructions: You are REQUIRED to visit a museum (in person or online) in order to choose ONE work of art to analyze for your Semester Paper. After finding this image locate books, search for journal articles on the Cabrillo Library site under ONE SEARCH, or JSTOR, or through other scholarly websites. You are required to use at least 3 sources: 1 book, 1 journal article and 1 website. You may have as many sources as you wish. You will write a 2,500-word paper on your image. This will be the order of your paper:
Your name and course number,
word count,
the title of the work, the artist, medium & date listed at the top,
a very brief historical review (about 500 words) that might include its location and circumstances under which it was created: who, what, when, where and why.
an analysis of the work along with your scholarly research. This will be the major part of your paper,
a copy of the image embedded in your paper, 
use primary and secondary sources, 
footnotes on each page and a bibliography.
DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA, ANY OTHER ENCYCLOPEDIA OR YOUR TEXTBOOK as a reference. Use the Chicago Manual of Style ONLY for your footnotes and bibliography. The format will be one inch margins with double spaced, 12 point Times Roman. In the syllabus please view Cezanne’s “The Bather” and read Meyer Schapiro’s short analysis of this work to help you understand what is expected of you. AVOID the “I” word or any reference to yourself as this is a formal paper, NOT an opinion piece.
IMPORTANT Please use document software that is compatible with Microsoft Word. If you use Microsoft Works, then save as PDF or RTF.
