In a two- to three-page essay, do the following: Select and read a recent journal article on a topic related to human sexuality from a peer reviewed research journal (2010–present). Make sure that you use an empirical journal article, not a review article. You know an article is an empirical article if it collects data and then presents the results (e.g. it has Methods and Results sections). Some good journals to choose from include: The Journal of Sex Research, Developmental Psychology, Archives of Sexual Behavior, Annual Review of Sex Research, Sex Roles, Current Sociology, American Psychologist All of the above journals should be available electronically through the library—if you need help accessing them, you can go to the College of Education’s Library Research Guide. Instructions for creating an APA citation are on page 198–200 of the APA Publication Manual. If you are not familiar with how to cite in APA format, you can find directions through the library’s website. Then critically evaluate this article, with an emphasis on the challenges of studying sexual behavior (chapter 3). Use the questions listed below as a guide. You should be sure to address all three of the following categories: Category Questions 1 Study Sample Describe and evaluate the sample. Is there any reason to be concerned about sampling bias? Are the findings generalizable to other populations? 2 Study Procedure Are there any risks that you can think of to the participants for being involved in the study? Describe the method. Is this work relevant and important? Are there any cross-cultural implications? After reading the article do you think there would be ways to improve the study?
