CA ECE Teacher Performance Expectations
Purpose
To learn about California Teacher Performance Expectations and reflect on your professional goals for early childhood education.
Directions
Step One:Review the background information about the Early Childhood Education Teacher Performance Expectations (ECE-TPE) presented on the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing website. Webinar 1 provides a good overview of the ECE-TPE’s and how they were developed.Step Two: Review the actual ECE-TPEs. Note that there are 4 job roles addressed by the ECE-TPEs:
Assistant (pages 6 to 16)
Teacher (pages 17 to 27)
Master Teacher/Mentor/Coach (pages 28 to 41)
Administrator (pages 45 to 50)
Also note that there are 6 overarching Standards (listed on page 3), and that each standard has multiple elements, which are detailed descriptions of the knowledge, skills, and abilities for each of the 4 job roles. For this assignment you will be focusing on:
Standard 2 Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Young Children’s Development and Learning Standard 3 Understanding and Organizing Content Knowledge for Young Children’s Development and Learning
Standard 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Developmental and Learning Experiences for All Young Children
Step Three: Decide which of the 4 job roles best fits you. You can base your decision on your current employment, or on your past experience, or on your future goals. For example, if you are currently working as a teacher, you could choose to write about the Teacher level elements, or you could choose to write about the next level up, Master Teacher because that’s your goal eventually. Step Four: Choose one of the standards listed above and discuss your current level of knowledge, skill, and ability related to 3 of the elements within that standard. Include the element itself and specific examples which describe your experiences with it.
Structure your paper as follows
1. The job role from above and why you chose it
2. The standard you are addressing (either Standard 2, 3, or 4) and why you chose it
3. Your first element 4. Your second element 5. Your third element
