The hero’s journey requires the protagonist to answer the call and cross the threshold into a new world. Continuing on the journey requires an initiation process that will train the protagonist, teaching or providing them with the skills and tools they need to cross the next threshold and face obstacles in their storied future. This initiation will lead to what is called the crisis point that occurs around the midpoint of the story.
For now, though, the protagonist must secure some training that can be internal and/or external. Along with these new skills and talents, the protagonist might even be gifted a special helper for the remainder of the journey.
