Purpose
The purpose of this group assignment is to develop a project charter to officially initiate the group project.
Background
The project charter is the document that formally authorizes the project and gives the project manager the authority to expend/apply organizational resources to accomplish project work. This document contains high-level information related to the project and on the product, service, or result that the project is intended to satisfy. Typically, the charter begins with a stated purpose and establishes project goals/objectives and related success criteria. The charter outlines the project boundaries, states the high-level requirements, project description, key deliverables, and overall project risk. Key stakeholders are identified, along with a summary milestone schedule and preapproved financial resources. Here is where the project approval requirements and project exit criteria are outlined. The project manager and his or her authority level and responsibility are defined. The project sponsor is provided as the person authorizing the project charter. This document also serves as the agreement between the parties involved in the project.
