Topic: An Analysis of the Effects of Nurse-to-Patient Ratio on Patients′
Outcome
Selecting the topic for my course, I decided to focus on the issue of nurse-patient ratios and their effect on patients′ outcomes. This topic is highly pertinent to the field of nursing because it has a direct impact on the standard of care that is offered to the patients. The issue that I plan to analyze is the impact of patient-to-nurse staff ratios on outcomes such as patient satisfaction, patient healing, and medical mistakes.
Approaching this topic as a problem, I plan to examine several key areas: There are several areas that need to be investigated when researching the effects of nurse-patient ratios on outcomes (Barbe, 2010). First, conduct a literature review to review the current standards and regulations of different regions and healthcare settings to determine effective models. After that, review research concerning nurse-to-patient staffing ratios and mortality rates, infection rates, and patient satisfaction to determine the effect of staffing levels on patient well-being. Such issues as staff shortages, lack of funds, and bureaucratic procedures should be squarely faced. Last but not least, consider the measures such as changes in policies, augmentation of the funding for nursing employees, and technological advancements.
The above strategies can help in coming up with an effective nurse-to-patient ratio, enhancing patients′ wellbeing and quality of care services.
