Your paper should make clear what era is (or eras are) being romanticized, and then should explore specific ideas that are being communicated. In addition to the film itself, you are free to consider the marketing for the film, interviews with the director, behind-the-scenes information, promotional materials for the film, etc.
There are two different types of films that might work here. The first is a film that was explicitly looking backward at the past (like, say, a film made this year about the gold rush, which would be a 2024 film about an 1840s event). The second is a film that was set in the present for those who made it, but that people in 2024 look back at and get a romanticized view of the era in which the film was produced (like, say, a film made in 1960 about the year 1960).
Your essay should be at least 1,000 words. That said, doing the bare minimum in life is not usually the path to maximum rewards, and there is no penalty for writing “too much.”
