Implementation Binder:
As educators, we are responsible for understanding the needs of our students and being familiar with special education delivery and best practices. In light of this, you will develop an “implementation binder” focused on one child. This can be a real or imaginary child. The child must be four years old or younger, have at a developmental delay in at least one developmental area, and attend an early childhood program (family, group or day care). You will create a binder with information and resources.
In this binder, you will provide information and resources about inclusive education; information and resources about the disability of your student; information on strategies, design, accommodations, and services for your student; a discussion of issues for grading, discipline, or other concerns for teachers of your student; and a reference section containing a definition of terms used and your citations. You must include ideas for the full social and academic participation of your student in grade-appropriate general education settings. Consider the child’s strengths and needs in each developmental domain.
Use the prompts provided throughout the semester, course materials and standards documents. You should include:
Information about the child and his/her disability
Information about the child’s strengths and needs in each developmental domains
Information about how this child functions in your classroom (real or imaginary) and your concerns related to this (see Module 5, 6 & 7 prompts))
Information on the strategies, design, accommodations, and services that would benefit this child (at least 5 pieces of information) (Look at prompts from modules 7, 8 & 9)
A discussion of issues for grading, discipline, or other concern. (In this case, grading=ongoing assessment, formative, summative or screening); (at least 2 pieces of information)
What else did you research & find?
Don’t forget a reference list…APA.
Your material will probably consist of various narratives, descriptions, maybe charts & visuals. This does not need to be a continuous essay or narrative. Imagine creating a binder. What would you put in it? Imagine you are sharing this with the family or a colleague-how would you explain the material?
Provided Module Prompts. (These are posted as reminders.)
Module 5
Thinking of the child you are focusing on, what type of environment does s/he attend? If you haven’t already, write an introduction to the child and the early childhood setting s/he attends. If an ITERS or ECERS (module 4) was conducted in this setting, what would be areas that need improvement? Could you provide some resources or ideas that might help increase the ITERS or ECERS score? How does caring fit into this setting?
Module 6: Thinking of your specific child, do some research and identify 3-5 materials you would add to the environment to support this child. Explain why you chose these materials.
Module 7: Which schema does your child engage in? What are materials you could provide to encourage this schema? What resources can you use?
Module 8: Lively Minds: Review the Appendix. You might use some of these questions for your Implementation Binder. Perhaps use these to indicate changes you would make to the environment to support the child in your Implementation Binder.
Module 9: How does the child you are studying use screens? Wat about other types of technology devices. If this child doesn’t use screens & devices, are there some that might be useful for him/her/they? What research regarding best practices or resources do you need to do to support this child’s use of technology and/or devices? Consider low tech and high tech possibilities
