victim focused case study: Requirements of the case study paper:
The case study paper is a group effort of 12-15 pages in length. The page length will depend on the size of the group. Single projects are a minimum of 12 full pages;
The paper must be consistent with the APA style of writing.
The textbook must be used as a source along with 4 additional academic sources.
Scott, H. (2016). Victimology: Canadians in context (Second edition.). Oxford University Press.
ISBN: 9780199014637
The paper should be focused on the victims (not the offender). Integrate course theories and apply them to your case. Include a brief summary of the case. Look at course materials and think about how the victims were treated or what the public reaction was; Were there any policy changes in the CJS or other agencies as a result of the outcome; what theories of crime can be applied to the case; what assumptions have been made (if any); what typologies can be applied to the victims; explain the aftermath for all victims if known; include crime stats that are comparative to the crimes;  etc. You may include a brief report of the outcome for the offender. Include a criticism of theories.
The case study must include a small explanation of how victimology practices and policies are linked to political ideologies and beliefs about crime for your case.
Integration of course material is key. Support this material with criminological theories and research.
No photos in the paper, only the presentation.
The paper will be evaluated on: (1) the integration of class materials with your case; (2) the clear and logical expression of your ideas – discussion and analysis; (3) arguments that are well presented and supported with evidence and sources that support your beliefs – quality of expression; and (4) the overall quality of your essay, proper citations and bibliography, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Some helpful hints include: (1) Make sure that you fully explain an idea; (2) Avoid generalizations or broad sweeping statements without providing adequate support or evidence; (3) Avoid discussing issues that are not relevant to the assignment; (4) Make sure that all your references conform to accepted academic standards and that your reference page is consistent with academic standards; (5) define all your terms; and (6) Proofread your paper carefully to make sure that every sentence is clear and makes sense.
