Discuss three (3) interventions supported with evidence for their client that will help meet the SMART outcome your peer has developed.
Peer Post: Epilepsy may present many challenges to the patient. After a seizure, the patient may experience acute confusion related to the postictal state as evidenced by confusion, altered level of consciousness, and impaired cognition (Ackley et al., 2021, pp. 105). Additionally, the patient’s caregivers should be educated on the phases of seizure activity including the postictal state and the expected behavioral changes (Pottkämper et al., 2020). During this phase, caregivers should help ensure the patient’s safety. Patients may attempt to harm themselves or others due to the confusion they experience.
The patient’s caregiver will be able to explain the phases of seizure activity and the signs and symptoms that the patient may exhibit (Ackely et al., 2021, pp. 249). The caregivers will also explain the measures they need to take to treat the seizure before the end of the visit. This should include any medications they may need to administer to stop the seizure and when to call 911 for additional help. Thirdly, the patient and caregivers will explain the modifications they will perform in the home to increase safety for the patient before the end of the visit.
