structured narrative that addresses the following questions:
a. What are the research questions, hypotheses (if applicable), or
the stated purpose of the research? Are these clearly stated and
relevant to our current field? If so, how?
b. What theoretical or conceptual orientation or framework(s) do
the authors draw upon to frame their study? Is their framework
clearly stated? Does it seem like a useful tool for answering their
research questions or stated purpose?
c. What kind of research design do the authors employ to answer
their questions? Does the design make sense given the questions
and theoretical framework they’ve articulated?
d. Do their methods (sampling strategy, instruments, data
collection/analyses) align with the design they’ve articulated
(provide evidence for your critique)?
e. What are the findings drawn by the authors? Do the findings
answer the research question/purpose and are they appropriate
to the methods of the study?
f. What conclusions do the authors make concerning the findings?
Are their conclusions and implications appropriate given the

authors, as articulated? What are the challenges or weaknesses
of their design? What could have improved the conceptual
framework, study design, methods, findings, or conclusions? Be
