The Ethics Paper will give you the opportunity to research an ethical issue and present clear and valid moral arguments for and against your position and provide an analysis of the issue using the strengths and weakness of an ethical theory covered in class.
the topic i have chosen is “Deep-fake videos and disinformation”
Deep-fake videos involve the use of AI to create realistic-looking
videos of people saying or doing things they never did.
and the position i am taking is : Deep-fake videos compromise the integrity of media and are unethical in all contexts, as they deceive and sow distrust within society.
the ethical theory i am using is Virtue ethics
Virtue ethics is a philosophical approach that focuses on the character
of the moral agent rather than the consequences of actions or adherence
to rules. It emphasizes cultivating virtuous traits such as honesty,
integrity, and trustworthiness. According to virtue ethics, ethical
decisions are made by considering what a virtuous person would do in a
given situation.
I believe this is the best theory to address my ethical topic because it
emphasizes the importance of character and moral integrity. Prioritizing
privacy, truthfulness, and societal trust aligns with virtuous traits such
as honesty, respect, and responsibility. By considering the virtues
involved in the use of deep-fake technology, individuals and
organizations can make ethical decisions that promote the well-being of
societal and uphold moral principles.
