You may select to write an original poem on one of these motifs: 
Social Justice
Racial Justice
Environmental Justice
After carefully reviewing “poems of witness,” create and upload your Social-, Environmental-, or Racial-justice-themed poem.  
Your poem should be a min. of 14 lines, include imagery, precise diction, and other poetic devices/techniques. 
Although you are making a statement through this poem, the work’s poetic power will speak loudly to the issue/message–so avoid overstating or “messaging” to the detriment of the poem.  Understatement and the subtlety of imagery go a long way toward creating meaning.

“The Asians Dying” – W.S. Merwin, poet and Viet Name War protestor
“The Right Whale” – Claudia Emerson, poet and advocate for the Environment
