Climate change is a global threat to many large vertebrate species, and amplifies human-wildlife conflict by increasing resource scarcity/unpredictability, compressing suitable habitat, altering behavior, and exacerbating existing spatiotemporal overlap of human activities and wildlife populations. The readings from this week offer many examples of human-wildlife conflicts that have increased because of changing climate. Think about your own experiences with climate change, either here in Seattle, or in your hometowns, or in a favorite vacation spot. Have you witnessed any changes to these places that are driven, at least in part, by climate change? Have these changes caused any heightened socio-political-ecological conflicts at the local level? Have these had any direct/indirect impacts on you, or your family/friends? Are you aware of any efforts currently underway to mitigate these changes?
