Worth 25 Points – READ ALL DIRECTIONS
1. Speak with one of your Radiologists and find interesting pathology case done at your current clinical site. 4. Each of you will write a research paper about the disease process associated with your case. (CT exam – Deep Vein Thrombus) APA format is required. The paper must be no less than four and not more than five pages in length, not including title or reference pages, and in 12 pt. Times New Roman font throughout. You MUST cover the following topics, preferably in this order:
a. Relevant patient history
b. The final diagnosis for the patient
c. Your paper is a research paper about the final diagnosis. The research must include (but
is not i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. d. Paper
limited to) the following information:
Signs and symptoms of the disease
Any male / female predominance
The progression of the disease
Radiology exams typically used for diagnosis Other options used for diagnosis
Treatment options
Morbidity / mortality of the disease (must include numbers)
Rules: No first person. Use at least four references (textbooks, lectures, patient
handouts, and personal communications are not allowed to be used within the paper nor
) No more than two websites may be used (and no more than two references from a website may be used). At least two of your references must be from a journal or book. Anything from Wikipedia, Radiopedia (or other open-source websites), and WebMD is NOT acceptable and will result in a zero for the paper. Quoted material, dictations, and physician note regarding the specific patient are not allowed.
5. When presenting the case for me in class, just give basic information (age and sex of patient, how they presented to Radiology if applicable, exam that was performed.)
6. I may ask a question or two (e.g. is the patient diabetic?).
7. Finally, I get to guess the disease.
8. Submit your final paper to Turn It In via KP Scholar no later than 11:55
PM Thursday, September 11, 2024. No paper, no credit and a zero will be given. Please include your student ID on the title page. Also, submit your final paper to TaskStream and remove your name from this version (we will include instructions on KP Scholar). YES, there are TWO separate submissions. Similarity threshold: 12%.
9. Use the attached rubrics as guidelines on how to write your paper.
