Oftentimes, when we think of the art of ancient Egypt, we cannot imagine integrating such imagery and icons into our current culture. The works are often enormous, lofty, elevated, and set apart from the day-to-day. They are located in a faraway place and may seem unrelatable to us due to the passage of time and the inevitable cultural differences that follow. Watch the two short videos below and write a discussion post describing how it makes you feel to see Ancient Egyptian Art juxtaposed alongside Contemporary Art in these very recognizable and ancient settings. Is it strange to you, or does it seem natural? Is it a respectful homage, or does it diminish the special status of the ancient work and spaces? Is it important for a culture to treasure its past while growing into its future? if so, why? If not, why not?
