Assignment One: Media Analysis: Socio-cultural Issues and Eating Disorders.
You are to find one advertisement image and one music video and critique each, with each critique being 1-1.5 pages each. You will be commenting on what messages the advertisement and video convey in terms of body image and eating. Following these, you will write a 4 page reflection about the relationship between eating disorders and western culture at large. Since this is a reflection, you will be sharing your own ideas (feel free to back up your opinions with references, but these are not needed). You will be marked on your ability to logically and clearly describe your opinion. Some other things to remember:
– There is no need for a formal structure to the paper. You look at the advertisement, music video, then society at large, but there is no formal structure I am looking for outside of that. Feel free to organize it how you want.
– First person is fine to use.
– Please paste the URL of the video and the advertisement image somewhere in your paper: last page is fine. No need to cite them formally for this assignment. The image nor the link will not count as part of the 7 pages for the assignment.
– I don’t provide sample papers for you to look at, and there is no rubric other than the Grading Scheme and information about the assignment I have already posted in the announcements, Course Outline and Course Overview Audio File.
– I have created a Turnitin Link for you to submit the paper. It’s in Module 4. Remember that you can only submit once, so you can’t submit multiple times to check your similarity.
