Choose one of the images on this page to analyze. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page to find them. ***If you do not use one of these but do not clear your personal choice with me, you will lose points on the final grade.
Explore key features of your chosen image. Consider: content, analysis, inference, synthesis, audience, and evaluation. Another way to think of it is:
why the image was constructed this way (purpose, imagery, design)
what it is trying to say (message, synthesis)
what it assumes about the viewer (inference, audience)
who it’s trying to influence (inference, audience)
whether or not you think it works (evaluation)
whether it’s appealing to emotions, logic, or the product’s worthiness (3 appeals)
etc.
Organization
Multiple paragraphs required.
This submission needs to be in essay, not outline format.
The thesis will include the main point of your analysis — what’s most important to understand about the design.
Include your thesis in your introduction or conclusion.
Use the paragraphs to explain various parts of your analysis.
Add a conclusion to leave the audience with an important idea to take with them — perhaps what you most want them to understand about the ad.
Grading
Content
A thesis is developed through detailed information.
The thesis should consider answering the following questions:

How does design relate to purpose?
What do you most want to draw your reader’s attention to?
However, there are many different ways to write a good analytical thesis.
