Chapter chats are your opportunity to discuss and share information from the readings. Think about what you would want to talk about in a class setting. This is where you will sharpen your critical thinking and analyzing skills. Responses or posts should not be simply read out loud or delivered like a speech, but mimic participating in a classroom setting. You will be evaluated on how well you engaged with the information contained in the chapters. You are encouraged to use any of the outside resources (videos and readings) also in your posts to show correlations or examples.
Use the questions below as a guide for your discussion (try to include at least 3-4 of the questions in your response).
From your point of view, what were the central themes and ideas of the chapters? How well do you think the author did at exploring them?
What was your favorite part of the chapters? What part or section did you identify the most with? What part did you dislike (if any)? Explain why or why not?
Do you have a favorite quote or quotes? If so, what were they?
How much did you know about this topic before you read the chapters? What did you learn? What was a totally new or innovative concept introduced in the chapter?
Was there any part of the reading that frustrated or upset you? If so, why?
How thought-provoking did you find the chapters? Did the information change your opinion about anything, or did you learn something new from it? If so, what?
If you were explaining the contents of the chapters to someone, what would you tell them about media literacy?
